Gareth Barry has praised Marlon Harewood for the way he has played in his first season at Aston Villa.

He told avfc.co.uk: "It's been a season of patience for him and he deserves credit for keeping his head and just getting on with his job.

"I know the manager respects a lot of what he's done this season because he's had to wait on the sidelines while Gabby and John have been doing well up front.

"But again at Derby on Saturday he showed he is ready to step in if needed and that's six goals coming off the bench now. He's an important player for us and he's done well."
