Liverpool hero John Barnes says winning without playing well is a great sign for manager Jurgen Klopp.

Barnes is optimistic that old habits have finally been cast aside after a 100 per cent start to the new campaign.

"I've been very impressed. The most impressive thing for me has been the couple of games where they haven't played well and have won," Barnes told the Mirror.

“In the past, Liverpool had to play well to win and it's been a problem against so-called lesser teams. I don't worry about Liverpool when they play the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

“I worry about them against the so-called lesser sides. But now, they're looking strong defensively and what you have to be able to do is, when you don't play well, get a result.

"And now, when they play well, they win. And when they don't play well, they're still getting a result."
