Barnes leaves Derby by mutual consent

Derby have confirmed midfielder Giles Barnes is leaving the club after having his contract at Pride Park cancelled by "mutual consent". The 21-year-old now has the opportunity to find a new team with immediate effect, although he will not be eligible to play until the January transfer window opens.

The midfielder, who made 95 appearances for the Rams and scored 13 goals, made his debut for Derby in August 2005, having just turned 17 and graduated through the club's Academy system.

Boss Nigel Clough said: "We have been in discussions with Giles for a few weeks now and we believe it is in the interests of both the player and the club that he moves on to pursue a new challenge.

"It is unfortunate that his Derby County career has been hampered by injury for the past two years, but Giles is a determined character and we all wish him well in the future."
