Former England winger John Barnes says he does not agree with Sol Campbell's claim that he would have been "national captain for more than 10 years" had he been white. Ex-Tottenham and Arsenal defender Campbell, who won 73 caps before retiring as a player in 2012, makes the claims in an authorised biography serialised by the Sunday Times.
"I don't think Sol would have been captain for 10 years because if you look at who the captains were - Tony Adams and then after that Alan Shearer. Then David Beckham became captain and that was a PR exercise for the FA. I don't think necessarily it was because of the colour of Sol's skin," Barnes tells BBC Radio 5 live.
