Anfield legend John Barnes has pledged his support to the fan group looking to buy out Liverpool's unpopular American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, reports The Mirror.
Share Liverpool FC want to take the club's ownership into the hands of the fans with a European style share scheme, with 100,000 members each paying £5,000 to allow them to take control of the club.
And Barnes, part of the last Liverpool side to win the league back in 1990, has joined fellow former Liverpool stars Phil Thompson and John Aldridge in backing the initiative.
He said: "I've been saddened by what's been happening in the boardroom lately, and I think it's time for things to change. Liverpool Football Club is part of the community, and it's time our magnificent supporters had a say in how the club is run.
"That's why I'm delighted to back ShareLiverpoolFC. If democratic ownership works for clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich, why can't it work here?"
So far nearly 40,000 people have registered their interest.
