Ross Barkley was full of praise for Chelsea teammate Jorginho after his winning Premier League debut at Huddersfield Town.

With Jorginho operating at the base, Barkley and N'Golo Kante worked ahead of him as Chelsea won 3-0 at Dean Court.

"He's pivotal to the way we play," Barkley said of Jorginho. "He's a real top-quality player, he gets on the ball, gets us playing and against Huddersfield you could see that's the way it's going to be this season."

On a personal level, Barkley was pleased to start having been heavily involved during the pre-season campaign, and he hopes he did enough to impress manager Maurizio Sarri and remain in the side.

"That depends on how I perform and hopefully I showed I can start and stay in his thoughts,' he said. 'There's a lot of competition at top sides like us so my focus is just to do what I can on the pitch and help the team win games."
