Barkley becoming the player you dream of - Everton boss Martinez

Ross Barkley's performance in Everton's shock 3-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday left manager Roberto Martinez in awe of the youngster.

21-year-old midfielder Barkley was at the top of his game as the Toffees ran riot at Goodison Park, providing two assists as Steven Naismith finished with a hat-trick.

In the wake of another assured sowing, Everton boss Martinez spoke glowingly of Barkley who was criticised at times last season for putting in sub-par displays.

"I think it shows you the technical aspect and the physical ideal of Ross has been incredible. The difference is to be allowed to make decisions on the pitch, and to be able to grow with it," said the Spaniard.

"Now he is becoming a player that is every single bit of the player that you would dream of.

"He's got that responsibility, he's brave, he wants to get on the ball and makes good decisions. He's a good defender of the ball and he's quite special with what he has.

"The thing about Ross is if he's playing well or badly he'll never stop from showing for the ball and trying to do the right things. And that's where you see that someone like right Ross will get over it and some other players can find it difficult and hide. Ross has never had that in his make up and there is still a lot to come. At his age he's still a very young man."
