Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley was delighted for the fans after their FA Cup win at Middlesbrough.
The defender was full of admiration for the away support as more than 4,200 members of the red and white army made their way to Teesside.
"The fans make so much noise and have travelled in their thousands for us again," Bardsley told safc.com.
"We know it is difficult for them in the current climate with finances but they have put their hands on their pockets again and travelled down the A19.
"The support was wonderful and this win is for them as well."
