Barcelona's Messi tells Man Utd star Ronaldo: Rome bigger than both of us
Barcelona star Lionel Messi has attempted to take the edge off his personal duel with Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of next week's Champions League final.
The Argentina superstar knows that, if Barcelona beat Manchester United in Rome, he will be World Player of the Year.
Otherwise, Ronaldo, 24, will be favourite to retain his title from last season.
But the Barca ace claims he is not worried about personal awards.
Messi, 21, said: “Nobody plays to be the best player in the world. This is a team game. I don’t see it as a tussle between Cristiano and me. It will be a Barca-Manchester battle.
“What is important is that Barcelona are champions of Europe on May 27 in Rome.
“If we are champions it will certainly help me, but this is secondary.”

Islam IS FOR RACTIST, IGNORANT LITTLE SAND COON'S. TRUTH IS A MIDGET P.A.CKI WITH A SMALL P.EN.IS, SO HE GETS OFF ON BLOGGING ON A FOOTBALL WEBSITE, TALKING ABOUT HIS INFERIOR RELIGEON. Islam IS FAKE, TRUTH! CHRISTIANITY PI.S.SES ALL OVER Islam, THATS WHY WE BOMB YOUR COUNTRIES BACK TO THE STONE AGE. Allah ISNT THERE FOR YOU, AND JESUS LETS SATAN F.U.CK HIM IN THE ASS. LOOK AT WHAT HE IS TYPING? SLAY THE PEOPLE WHO DONT BELIEVE IN Islam? NO OTHER RELIGEON IS REALLY LIKE THAT, IN THAT DETAIL. YOUR RELIGEON IS FAKE, BECAUSE IF Allah WANTS PEOPLE WHO DONT FOLLOW Islam DEAD, THEN WHY DO WE SLAUGHTER ARABS EVERY DAY, AND ALL THEY DO IS KILL A FEW INNOCENT PEOPLE. MUSLIMS TAKE IT IN THE ASS, AND WE KILL THEM, IN MASSES. SO WHO'S GOD IS STRONGER NOW, YOU F.U.C.KING DIRTY SAND NIG.G.E.R. JUST BECAUSE YOUR MOTHER HAD SEX WITH A GOAT AND YOU WERE THE OUTCOME, DOESNT MEAN YOU CAN TAKE YOUR ANGST ON WEBSITES FOR FOOTBALL NEWS. GROW A DICK AND BE A MAN, OR EMAIL ME AND ASK WHERE I LIVE, AND IF YOU LIVE CLOSE TO ME, I'LL COME LAY YOU OUT YOU F.U.C.KING FAGGOT P.A.C.K.I.
The truth remains that we as a world are destined for extinction unless we live in harmony with the very nature of the world that allows us life, we require reverence without religion, belief without fanaticism and moral without judgement. We are all individuals that must operate without preconception and work for the greater good of others not ourselves. Women and men must be equal in life and belief must only serve to serve others not ourselves.
