Barcelona youth chief Bakero: McGuane signed to play first team football

Barcelona youth chief Jose Mari Bakero says Marcus McGuane was signed to play in the first team.

Former Arsenal junior McGuane made his Barca debut in the Catalan Super Cup triumph over Espanyol this week.

Bakero told the Daily Mail: "Let me be extremely clear: we never, ever buy footballers to sell them. We bought McGuane with the idea he can go to the first team. We believe he has the qualities but only if he works hard.

"Our duty is to believe that every kid we bring to this club has the genuine potential to make it in our first team. The philosophy is to create unique players for the first team.

"Some clubs will buy a player, develop them in their bubble and if he does not make the first team, sell him on. We don't believe in this. That is business."
