Barcelona withdrawal places Arsenal first in Meyer pursuit

Arsenal will go all out for Schalke midfielder Maximillian Meyer this summer.

The German is set to become a free agent when his contract expires in June.

At just 22, Meyer has made over 190 appearance for the Gelsenkirchen club. He joins the likes of Mesut Ozil, Julian Draxler and Leroy Sane as another prodigious attacking talent that has developed at Veltins Arena.

And according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona's exit out of the Meyer sweepstakes has ramped up Arsenal's interest in the U21 European Championship winner.

Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Tottenham are also keeping an eye on Meyer's situation. But it is Arsenal's potential need for midfield reinforcements that has caused them to prioritise Meyer's signing.

Negotiations with Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, who are both free agents at the end of the season, have reached an impasse, which has caused the recruitment department at Arsenal to start looking at alternatives.
