Barcelona win does not make Man City Champions League favourites – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has dismissed claims that Manchester City are currently among the favourites to claim the Champions League title.

City have performed extremely well in the Champions League so far this season and the Citizens certainly impressed many with their stunning display in the 3-1 victory over Barcelona a few weeks ago.

The Premier League club have since widely been lauded as among the contenders to claim the European crown following the scintillating performance against Barca but Guardiola has dismissed such a notion due to the fact that his side do not boast a strong history in the competition.

Guardiola said: "We were so pleased and so happy for what we did against Barcelona, but it was just one game to help us into a better position now than before.

"We're going to try to play more games in the Champions League, but there's a lot of history in the clubs, so we cannot be considered favourites to win.

"Maybe in 10 years people are talking about Manchester City as one of the candidates to try to win it. But we're talking about the Spanish teams - Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid - then Bayern Munich and Juventus. There are many."
