Barcelona are keeping tabs on River Plate defender Eder Alvarez Balanta.
The Colombian has been recommended to Barca by coach Tata Martino as a long-term successor for Carles Puyol.
Balanta, 20, will be watched by Barca this season, though plans for a move could be brought forward for January if Puyol fails to prove his fitness.
