Valencia sports chief Rufete is being linked with Barcelona.
Barcelona president Josip Maria Bartomeu is seeking a new sporting director after the sacking of Andoni Zubizarreta.
Bartomeu has assured fans he will soon install a new man, though appears to have been turned down by Sevilla chief Monchi.
Meanwhile, Sport says Rufete is also on Bartomeu's shortlist and was coy when asked about the prospect on local TV yesterday.
Rufete has overseen the deal for former Benfica winger Enzo Perez this month.
