Spanish giants Barcelona will need to make an improved offer if they want Liverpool's Javier Mascherano. Reds boss Roy Hodgson reportedly wants £18million by the end of this coming weekend for the Argentina captain so the Anfield club can recoup some of the money they paid West Ham for his services a few years ago.
Liverpool are resigned to the fact that Mascherano will leave the club but want more than the £16million Barcelona have already offered so they can do some late business in the transfer window.
Mascherano did not play in Liverpool's 3-0 loss to Manchester City on Monday night because he was 'distracted' by his transfer status.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the Reds are being linked with a move for PSV Eindhoven striker Ola Toivonen despite the Dutch club saying he is not for sale.
