Barcelona were offered Tottenham star Gareth Bale two years ago for €40 million, it has been revealed.
El Mundo Deportivo says Barca president Sandro Rosell agreed to move for Bale two summers ago and made a formal approach to Spurs about the Welshman.
The London club were prepared to sell - for €40 million. But Rosell and his directors believed the fee was excessive.
Barca tried again 12 months later before deciding to go for former Valencia wing-back Jordi Alba.
Bale is now expected to sign for Real Madrid for a world record €100 million this month.
