Barcelona president Rosell explains taking record shirt deal
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has explained their record shirt deal with the Qatar Foundation.
Club legend Johan Cruyff spoke out against the deal that will earn €165 million over a six-year period, claiming that Rosell has foregone tradition and heritage by securing the contract.
But the president explained: “We concluded that it was better that the payroll get paid rather than not.
“This is to plug holes. The economy was worse than what we thought and what they told us.”
Responding directly to Cruyff, Rosell continued: “This is a myth of Barcelona, because five years ago I argued against it, and I was right then. Now is the right time.
“The [Qatar] foundation is intended to provide resources, the government of Qatar has a company that promotes the sport, and that is who will pay us. This was the only way to remedy the debts of the club. This was the only marketing option, and it is understandable that this is the option that we have chosen.
“Qatar Foundation and UNICEF are dedicated to helping those who need help and are not trademarks. We are very pleased to maintain the appearance of solidarity on the shirt."

hahahahaha..so much of their revered tradition..they bn sold out..next som tycoon myt come and buy the club..sori barca fans..dooms dae
it is a great move because barca have lot of debts to clear
Ok.. I am not a barca fan... But what barca did is just right... they cannot allow their home grown players to move out just cos barca are in debts... Barca is a team which never allows any of their youth set up players to even get tempted to any amount of money.. Cos they ensure they pay their kids well...
Now for some reason, they are falling short of money. This myt tempt all the money minders to come and steal barca's soul which is their main asset, that is their kids who came from their youth setup... and moreover, barca was the only club which succesfully ran its club with out having shirt sponsorship deal all these years. why soo many are complaining about barca coming up with a deal... afterall they never let down Unicef. Unicef will be part of their shirt...
Forget the world.. They always hate succesful people, but dont understand why some of Barca's ppl are talking soo bad about this move... After all they signed with another Foundation group...
n btw, Arabs dont have a damn say on how barca should be... where ever barca wants, it can put arabs logo... and thats the bottomline...
