Barcelona president Joan Laporta attempted to include Cesc Fabregas in his deal for former Arsenal midfielder Alex Hleb in the summer, it has been revealed. Ona FM reports that Laporta had hoped to sign the Gunners pair as a package - so no known price for Cesc could come back to haunt the club after he had quit Barca for nothing to sign for Arsenal as a teenager.
Laporta, former vice-president Marc Ingla and a third unidentified director, met with Cesc in an attempt to convince him to return to the Nou Camp. Such was Laporta's determination, that he was willing to sell Xavi and Eidur Gudjohnsen to fund the deal.
However, in the end Cesc rejected their approach and instead committed himself to a new contract with the Gunners.
