Barcelona president Laporta indicates cash available for Man City's Robinho

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has all but admitted they would be splashing out on Manchester City winger Robinho in January.

During a Johan Cruyff presentation yesterday, Laporta took questions from the local media and deferred all team matters to sports director Txiki Begiristain.

However, when asked about their pursuit of Robinho, Laporta refused to name the Brazilian specifically, but did admit: "If the coaching staff want to reinforce the squad in January, I am sure we will make the effort to satisfy them."

Instead of publishing fantasy headlines and stories you should be concentrating on the truth. Robinho is going nowhere. Mark Hughes said today and for the umpteenth time:

'I am quite clear and Robinho should be quite clear that his future is very much with City,' said Hughes. 'There is no reason to think that will change any time soon.

'All those stories do not originate from anyone from City. It is people on the outside taking a view on the situation with Robinho which they have no real insight into.'

If the South American had been playing, discussion of his performances would have helped fill a void. Instead, the space has been filled by discussion over his future.

'At the moment Robinho is not fit,' said Hughes. 'But people still want to talk about him because he is a high-profile player.

'They have not had the opportunity to talk about him play on the pitch. From their point of view the next best thing is to speculate about his future and there are a number of people out there who are making mischief.' tribalfootball are one of the main culprits.

With all the money they have, Man City will never become true European powerhouses if they have unsettled players. Robinho was a great signing for them, and they've signed many more since then, but it's debatable as to whether or not they can truly keep a great team together. Robinho will leave. In a year or two I guarantee Adebayor will be displeased and so on and so forth. Good teams in Europe or the EPL have staple players of world class quality that stick by the team. Dunno if Man City will manage that any time soon.
