Barcelona president Joan Laporta remains hopeful of securing striker Samuel Eto'o to a new contract.

"If I were him, I would renew the contract," Laporta said yesterday.

"What is happening with Eto'o is normal, because he is a player coveted by all the big clubs of Europe and also there is the fact that his contract ends next year.

"I hope we reach an agreement, because he is a decisive player and a great professional."
