Barcelona president Laporta fears for Liga if Beckham law scrapped

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is dead against the scrapping of the 'Beckham tax law'.

Spanish parliament is considering changes to the tax laws which allow foreign footballers earning over €600,000-a-year to pay only 24 per cent in tax.

There is a push for the lower tax rate to be scrapped.

"This decision is being taken without any consultation, which is hitting a league that is the best in the world and already brings a lot to the GDP of the country," said Laporta.

"The results of the clubs and the national team demonstrates that the policy which has been followed so far was right. With this reform, the most talented foreign players will think twice before coming to play in La Liga."

It makes no difference to players. signing contracts in Spain, they talk in salaries after tax. So it means nothing to Lampard if the tax is 0% or 43% and that's because the clubs pay. So if Barcelona want to buy Lampard and pay him €9 million a year, it now means they have to offer him a much higher salary so when he is taxed at his new 43% he still earns €9 million a year...

"best league in the world" lol, this dude is clearly a joke and leaving in
cloud cuckooland.

All this talk of ruining La Liga is nonsense. Footballers earn an insane amount of money, even after tax. I'm sure the weather and lifestyle will entice players to head to Spain, it's not like they had trouble deciding between there and England before, it's down to how they wish to challenge themselves as footballers.
