Barcelona president Bartomeu: No-one wants to sell Messi

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed they're close to agreeing a new deal with Lionel Messi. Fresh from his El Clasico hat-trick, it emerged this week that Messi's father, Jorge, and Bartomeu had broke their impasse over a new deal.

"We have said in recent months that we want the best player in the world to be the best paid. We're working on it," said Bartomeu.

"Messi is not for sale and no one (on the board) wants to sell. He's one of ours. He has Barca DNA, and can leave whenever he wants."

Of Messi's performance at Real Madrid, Bartomeu added: "Not a surprise, but a confirmation of what we've been seeing in recent years. We have the best players in the world and they showed that they still are."
