Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has defended the players for their celebrations in victory at Valencia.

Coins and bottles rained down on the Blaugrana players, who had fronted up to the stand behind the goal before minor scuffles broke out at the final whistle.

"I think it was a competitive game," said a nonplussed Bartomeu to reporters. "The players celebrated the goal with the expected exuberance.

"I think when you win a game, celebrations are logical."
