Former Sunderland and Bolton Wanderers fullback Marcos Alonso is being linked with Barcelona.

Barca coach Luis Enrique is seeking defensive cover and Sport says Fiorentina fullback Alonso is on their shortlist.

Alonso, 29, has played a big role in the Viola's success this season.

Barca chief Ariedo Braida has been a regular attendee of Fiorentina games and will have delivered positive scouting reports on Alonso to sports director Robert Fernandez.

Alonso is a former Real Madrid Castilla player.
