While there has been no formal or direct contact, El Mundo Deportivo says representatives from both camps have spoken about Mourinho returning to Barca for next season.

Mourinho's minders have made it clear that the Portuguese would be keen, with him regarding Barca as a "special club" and also still counting on many friends in the region.

Mourinho would also be prepared to work with a homegrown assistant as his No2 - leading the way for Pep Guardiola to be promoted from his role as Barcelona B coach.
