Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara has rejected an approach from Real Madrid.

Real president Florentino Perez was dazzled by Thiago's performance at the U21 Euros with Spain and made a shock attempt for the midfielder, says Sport.

However, Thiago refused to consider the option, with his representatives making it clear to Perez he regarded it as too controversial a step for him.

The midfielder remains hopeful of signing for Manchester United in the coming days.
