Barcelona are keen to tempt Bayern Munich defender Javi Martinez back to Spain.
Marca says Martinez, who joined Bayern in 2012, has been a long-term target for the Blaugrana, but their preference has been to move for either Paris Saint-Germain's Marquinhos or Aymeric Laporte of Athletic Club.
Neither deal looks possible; with PSG wanting to keep Marquinhos while Laporte is strongly touted to join Manchester City.
Attention could turn to the Spain international, despite his contract renewal until 2021 in December and the Bavarians' likely reluctance to sell.
Martinez has gone from strength to strength at the Allianz Arena since signing from Athletic, who are notoriously tough negotiators and demanded his €40m buyout clause.
