Barcelona chiefs are seriously considering a move for Atletico Madrid veteran Diego Forlan. Barca's financial concerns have forced the champions-elect to take a more considered approach to the transfer market, says Sport.

While the likes of Alexis Sanchez (Udinese), Giuseppe Rossi (Villarreal) and Neymar (Santos) have been touted, it's been revealed Barca chiefs Andoni Zubizarreta and Josep Maria Bartomeu are no longer willing to gamble on potential.

Instead, Forlan's deal would give coach Pep Guardiola a proven La Liga goal scorer, a good team man and someone who can step in for the likes of David Villa with a minimum of fuss.

Atletico revealed they rejected an approach from Real Madrid in January for the former Manchester United striker.
