Barcelona fullback Daniel Alves has blasted Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer as "idiotic". Alves was reacting to Shearer's criticism of Brazil teammate Fred.

"Shearer's comment is idiotic; one of the most idiotic things you could possibly hear, and from someone who played football. It's a shame.

"It's a lack of respect when someone degrades a fellow colleague like that. It's a shame to hear that kind of comment from a former player," Alves told UOL.
