Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has been caught up in a celebrity scandal involving pop icon Shakira. Pique was forced to deny he was having a relationship with the Colombian after she announced her split from Antonio de la Rua, who she had been with for 11 years.
"Shakira and I are just friends, nothing more," said Pique upon his return to Barcelona from Zurich for the Ballon d'Or ceremony on Monday.
Shakira and former Manchester United defender Pique became close during the World Cup in South Africa, where the pop singer performed.
