Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola is a shock target for the Argentina FA. Argentine chiefs, exasperated by Diego Maradona's failure to get the best from Lionel Messi, want to replace the football icon with Guardiola.
One AFA board member told Marca: "Argentina has a rough diamond in the form of Messi, and none of the national selectors have been able to use him properly.
"But with Guardiola at Barca, Messi has become champion of the three competitions in which he was engaged in. And he even finished top scorer in one of them (Champions League)."
Another director said: "Argentina is virtually out of the race for the World Cup, now we must pray that Spain becomes champion. That way, they will not try to contact Guardiola."
