Barcelona chiefs regret renewing the contract of Jose Manuel Pinto, it has been revealed.

Punto Pelota says Barca would not have handed Pinto a new 12-month deal if they'd known Victor Valdes' plans to leave the Nou Camp.

With Pinto left on the books, it is confusing Barca's plans to replace Valdes, with a split occurring over whether to sign an experienced No1, or a young keeper who is capable of adjusting to the club's playing system.
