Barcelona chiefs ask Pep: Why Cesc when we have Thiago?

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola insists Thiago Alcantara's superb preseason form won't change his thinking about Cesc Fabregas. Thiago struck twice against Bayern Munich last night to fuel opinion that Barca do not need to buy back the Arsenal captain.

Guardiola said: "Thiago has played very well. Beyond his play, he is an extraordinary guy, is competitive and as you have seen plays very good football.

"It is fortunate that we have another kid out of the juniors. He was brilliant not only for the goals but also for his defensive actions."

On Cesc, Guardiola added: "In a season so busy, there is room for everyone and the ones who play are those who deserve to."
