Barcelona will challenge Real Madrid for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez.
Martinez is a top target for new Real coach Jose Mourinho as he gives up his bid to prise Thiago Motta away from Inter Milan.
Sport says Barca coach Pep Guardiola is also keen as he prepares to lose Yaya Toure to Manchester City.
Bilbao are insisting any interested buyer meet Martinez's €30 million buyout clause. Guardiola regards that price as ridiculous and would be prepared to do business for around €12 million.
Martinez would arrive as initial cover for Sergio Busquets.
