Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta defended Gerard Pique after his celebrations in their 1-1 draw at Espanyol.

Pique is hardly the most popular figure amongst Espanyol's supporters following his recent comments and the Spanish defender was clearly feeling the negative reaction from the crowd.

"These things happen in derby matches," Iniesta explained in his post-match interview. "I don't know the exact gesture that Pique has made.

"I hope everything is very calm."

Los Cules did push forward even after their equalising goal to try and find a winner, however it was not to be.

"We had a point and we were still pushing up," he confirmed. "We couldn't get all three points.

"The conditions weren't as bad for them as they were for us."
