Barcelona boss Guardiola envies ruthlessness of Man Utd rival Ferguson

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola says he admires the "conviction" of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson has admitted he tried to sign the former Barca midfielder during his playing career.

Guardiola told the People: "I am envious that Ferguson still has all his hair.

"I would like to have the force and the conviction that he has.

"Players go there and Ferguson makes them great. Then they move on, and he goes on winning with new players.

"He has sold Cristiano Ronaldo and Tevez and they still keep winning.

"It is as if we sold Messi and we still go on winning.

"The fact that they sell these players and yet remain so competitive is admirable. It shows the club is bigger than anything else.

"What I saw two years ago when we played them, and what I still see now when I watch them, is that they have this spirit - and they always know what they have to do in games.

"Ronaldo was special, but now Wayne Rooney plays in his proper position and is much more dangerous. Before, he sacrificed himself for the team. It shows the quality of the manager to convince the players to do this for the good of the team."
