Barcelona star Lionel Messi hopes to complete his trophy set with World Cup glory next year. Messi has won everything in the game - six trophies plus the FIFA World Player and Ballon d'Or awards.

"Now all I need is the World Cup," smiled Messi, who assured Argentina fans he is determined to improve his form at international level.

"I hope to improve my performance with Argentina, I'm working hard for it. I want more than anyone to be the best."

Messi also moved to calm anger among Estudiantes fans after his goal celebration in the Club World Cup final.

"I could not return to Argentina having seen my team lose," said Messi. "I did not mean to insult anyone."
