Barbados official loses Wellington Phoenix star Ifill's passport

A Barbados national team official has made an embarrassing blunder, losing the passports of the team's three best players. Wellington Phoenix striker Paul Ifill, Wigan Athletic defender Emmerson Boyce and Scunthorpe United winger Jonathan Forte were all supposed to fly to the Caribbean for CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifying matches but were unable to do so when the official misplaced their passports.

"With the overseas players, some of us are not allowed to keep our passports," Ifill told the Dominion Post. "It's an admin thing and a delegate is supposed to keep the passports in a safe place, but obviously he kept them in too safe a place and he couldn't find them.

"And when he did locate them it was a day before I was supposed to fly out and they realised that the passports had run out, last year, for all three of us so it was not going to happen."

Ifill admitted it he was disappointed with proceedings but revealed that the boots he received from Phoenix teammates to give to the amateur Barbadian players would still get to their destination.

"I'm not pleased at all because I think it's a big mistake from the football association," he added.

"It's not good, they're (boots) still in my spare room. The boys were good donating the boots and I will get them out there at some point."
