Former Arsenal midfielder Julio Baptista says they must be patient with manager Unai Emery.

While the South American is a big fan of Emery after his work at Sevilla, Baptista fears that the Gunners have fallen too far behind for the Spaniard to have a real immediate effect.

Baptista said: “Unai is an incredible manager and coach and now he has been given the opportunity he can do something important at Arsenal.

“Arsenal is an historic club, an amazing club.

“But in the last ten years they have not got the results of the past. That is the hardest thing in football because if people don't get the results the situation changes.

“That is the reason Arsene left. He was a great coach, brought so much success.

“Arsenal want Unai to give them that success again. He has the ability to make Arsenal get back to the top and have opportunities to win the championship again.

“But it is difficult coming to a new country. The transition will be tough for the first year."
