Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan knows he needs to be playing to break into the Scotland squad.
With Gerard Houllier still in charge at Villa Park, Bannan may have to seek another temporary or permanent move.
Bannan said: "It's fair for the manager to say that if you're not playing regularly for your club you can't expect to get picked for the country.
"I know that myself. If I'm not involved at Villa how can I demand I play for Scotland?
"I'll be working hard from the minute I get back to try and get in the team - and hopefully I don't give Craig Levein a dilemma.
"I want to be in the team week in and week out.
"I have three years left on my contract and I'm very happy where I am.
"Levein came over to me on the first day at training and said that I had to keep working away."
