Bannan happy with new chance at Aston Villa

Barry Bannan was pleased with his Aston Villa recall last weekend.

Bannan's footballing rehabilitation was completed last Saturday when he made his first Villa start in more than two months, in the 0-0 draw at Wigan.

He told the Scottish Sun: "Not being involved at Villa has been a big disappointment because I want to play every game.

"Hopefully getting a start against Wigan is a sign of things to come. I spoke to Alex McLeish a couple of weeks ago and he reassured me I was a big part of his plans and my time would come.

"We're in a difficult position, pretty close to the relegation area.

"The manager's option would probably be to go with more experienced players but at Wigan there was myself, Gary Gardner and Marc Albrighton in the middle.

"We are three players who have come through the youth ranks at Villa. The oldest of those was Marc, who's only a couple of weeks older than I am.

"That shows the gaffer still has faith in the younger lads, which can only be good."
