Bamford: Derby can help me break into Chelsea first team

Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford is happy with his loan move to Steve McClaren's Derby County.

Bamford scored the winner on debut against Nottingham Forest.

He said: "I think there were three leading the race for me - Burnley, Wigan and Derby. Chelsea gave Steve permission to speak to me in the middle of December and he was the first to call me.

"I know what Steve is about, the way he played and the way he trained and what his coaching was like. It was always my preferred option.

"The main aim is to try and get Derby promoted. But it has to be a stepping stone to get into the Chelsea first team."
