Manchester City recruit Mario Balotelli experienced a dream start for his new club on Thursday night by scoring the winner against Romanian outfit FC Timisoara in Europa League qualifying.

The former Inter Milan striker entered the fray at the Dan Paltinisanu Stadium in the 57th minute when the score was locked at 0-0 but he had an immediate impact, netting with a cool finish from close range in the 72nd minute after some good initial play from Emmanuel Adebayor.

Roberto Mancini fielded a very strong line-up with the likes of Gareth Barry, Yaya Toure, David Silva, Carlos Tevez, Kolo Toure and Nigel de Jong all starting and will go into next Thursday's return leg at Eastlands in a comfortable position to progress to the competition proper.
