The 20-year old Italian firebrand has all the attributes to be a top class performer but Vieira, who also played with Balotelli at Inter Milan, suggests that a bit more hard work can take him to the next level.
“There’s no doubt that he can become one of the best strikers in the world,” said Vieira. “The potential and the quality are there. His touch and finish are brilliant, they are fantastic.
“But sometimes that is not enough to make a career. If he wants to be one of the top strikers in the world, he needs to work harder than he is doing at the moment.
“He needs to work for the team a bit more. The demands of the Premier League are a bit different from in Italy. I think if he works harder, he will be really successful.
“He just has to get his focus on the game, but he’s still young. He needs to learn and I think he’s in the right team to learn.
“I think my role will be really important because I know him really well. I know what the demands are in the Premier League and I’ve got the experience, so my word will be really important to him. I hope I can help him become better than when he was at Inter.
“But the positive is that he’s scoring goals and that’s a good start. And he has been out with injuries when he arrived so match fitness wise, he’s a bit off his best. He will be really important for us during the season.”
