Ballardini ready to hit ground running as new Genoa coach

Davide Ballardini is ready to hit the ground running after replacing sacked coach Gian Piero Gasperini at Genoa.

The former Lazio tactician was confirmed as the new Grifone tactician earlier today following the dismissal of the 3-4-3 disciple.

"I don't know how Gasperini works, but when I faced him with Cagliari, Palermo and Lazio, his side always impressed me in terms of their running and organisation," Ballardini said.

"I knew I was taking on a [Gasperini] side that would cause us trouble.

"Genoa have a precise identity and I'm not revolutionising things. I'll have to respect the characteristics of the players and the identity of the team."

Genoa have started the season poorly after collecting just 11 points from 10 games following a heavy summer of investment.

"The championship is very hard and it is even more balanced this season," the former Cagliari and Palermo Coach added.

"All of the sides have the ability to gain points and I think that a full strength Genoa can be very competitive."

Ballardini also called on the home support to push his new side to greater things in the rest of the season.

"Whenever I came to Genoa I was always struck by the great crowd and I'm sure the fans will help us. It's an environment that includes everyone."
