Bale hopes he's done enough to keep Spurs spot

Tottenham fullback Gareth Bale admits he heeded the words of manager Harry Redknapp before their Carling Cup win over Everton.

Redknapp insisted beforehand that it was an opportunity for players who haven't played as regularly so far this season to go out and impress.

"When the chance comes they have to take it and stake a claim for a place," he said.

And Bale told the Spurs website: "When the manager said that it was a real incentive for us. We all wanted to do well and win the game.

"We've all been working hard in training and when we get a chance, we have to try and grab it as best we can.

"I really enjoyed the game. We all knew it was going to be tough game and that Everton might be a bit tired because they've played a few games recently, so we took that into account. We all stuck together and worked hard for each other.

"It was a great performance both defensively and in attack. We deserved the win."
