Bale claims Tottenham deserved all three penalties

Tottenham triumphed 4-1 over FC Twente in the Champions League, and whilst this total included two penalties they also missed a third. Gareth Bale claimed all three of their penalties were good calls by the officials.

Rafael van der Vaart missed the first penalty, before scoring and then being sent off, while Roman Pavlyuchenko converted the other two.

"If they're penalties they should be given and I think they all were tonight," Bale said on Sky Sports 2.

Ledley King was more cautious, saying: "The referee seemed to take a while to give them, I don't know if he was listening to the official behind the goal."

King was pleased with the win, though, following their opening 2-2 draw at Werder Bremen.

"We got a good draw at Bremen and it was about following that up by getting three points by any means necessary," he said.

The win moved Tottenham level on four points with holders Inter Milan at the top of Group A.

"It's a good start so far but that's all it is," King added.

Van der Vaart admitted the game was one of the more eventful of his career. "Of course after the red card it was difficult," he said on Sky Sports. "I was worried we wouldn't win the game but in the end the guys played fantastic.

"It was a strange game, also for me. I scored, missed a penalty and was also sent off."

The Dutchman will now miss Tottenham's trip to Milan through suspension, but Van der Vaart has faith in his team-mates.

"They are going to win for me," he added.
