Baldini faces being squeezed out of Spurs

Franco Baldini is battling to keep his job at Tottenham.

The Sunday Mirror says chairman Daniel Levy is adamant that he wants the north Londoners to sign players proven in the English game, after £110million was spent on seven imports who had no previous Premier League experience last year.

Italian Baldini, the former right-hand man of England manager Fabio Capello, was largely responsible for the spending of last year's Gareth Bale windfall and there is a recognition that the policy failed.

Baldini's recommendation of the club-record £32m fee for Erik Lamela from his former club Roma is believed to be a black mark against his name.

Chief scout Ian Broomfield has returned to Spurs from QPR and will play a major role in Tottenham's recruitment plans, leaving Baldini sidelined.
