Fabio Capello has had a seven-year ambition to coach England, revealed his close friend Franco Baldini.
Baldini, who worked with Capello at Roma and Real Madrid, is being tipped to take on a role as chief scout in the new look England regime and he sees it as the perfect role for his friend.
"Ever since the FA appointed Eriksson six years ago, Fabio has been thinking about England and the fascinating possibilities," Baldini told the Daily Express.
"He was in contact with the FA in 2000 when they thought of him then, but it was not the right time.
"He has worked with big players throughout his career and he's always been a winner wherever he has gone.
"Fabio thinks about England as the mother of the game and the teacher of football and I am sure he would like to be England manager."
