Baines still favours Man Utd despite Spurs plans

Tottenham are ready to compete with Manchester United for Everton fullback Leighton Baines. The Daily Mail says Spurs spent over £100m in the summer on seven new signings but the world record sale of Gareth Bale means that Andre Villas-Boas still has funds available in January and he wants to bring in a left-back and a striker.

One potential stumbling block over Spurs' move for Baines would be the defender's reluctance to relocate from his north west base.

As such, Baines might be more tempted at an offer to be reunited with David Moyes at Old Trafford.
